Luca StoneworksWhat started from a small handmade gift from a son to his father opened a window into a world of creativity, imagination and discovery. The sculptures are in the stone, waiting to be revealed and admired. Welcome to Luca Stoneworks. Named after my son, Luca, who at the tender age of eight carved a small polar bear from soapstone as a Father's Day gift... my most treasured possession to this day. Luca Stoneworks reveals the spirit, movement and grace found in nature. Sometimes abstract but most often true to form, the sculptures attempt to capture a moment in time and space. My style seeks out the natural beauty found in the ocean (such as orcas, humpbacks, blue whales, dolphins, and manta rays) and on land (bears, eagles and owls). 'Inukshuks' mark the passage that someone has been there before. My attempt to not only balance a stack of stones but also bring on a personality all their own - the 'Surfer' or 'Boarder' - all made from a single piece of stone! Not limited to living creatures but moved by the imagination found in every child, new works include Fairies, Angels, Dragons and Gargoyles to mention just a few. I am fortunate to live and work in a global village that includes Pemberton and Whistler. My work is enjoyed and displayed in homes all over the world. From my home in Pemberton I continue to carve, sculpt, create a mess in the garage, clean up and be inspired by my wife, children and Mother Nature. From the current available sculptures in my gallery, I also create site-specific sculptures for home, garden and office. Please contact me if you are interested in a specially commissioned sculpture. |
