Luca Stoneworks - Fine Stone Sculptures

Artist Biography
M. Paul Vacirca (MPV)

Luca Stoneworks was named after my son, Luca. At the tender age of eight, he carved a small soapstone impression of a Polar Bear as a Father’s Day gift. To this day it is one of my most precious belongings.

Luca Stoneworks : Soapstone Bear CarvingInspired by my son’s efforts and soon to be married life with Heather, I wanted to share a little bit of Whistler with all of our wedding guests. Working with cedar wood, tea candles, soapstone and 76 guests later… I was hooked on the varied textures, subtleties and colors found in soapstone, alabaster and chlorite. With whatever artistic talent handed down from my parents - my father was a military pilot, architect and painter and my mother, the arts and crafts guru in the family - I launched Luca Stoneworks!

Inspired by nature, my style seeks out the natural beauty found in the ocean (such as orcas, humpbacks, blue whales, dolphins, and manta rays) and on land (bears, eagles and owls). Not limited to living creatures but moved by the imagination found in every child, new works include Fairies, Angels, Dragons and Gargoyles to mention just a few.

The lines and features are intended to strike a balance between elegance and strength. To find a sense of beauty that searches for freedom from natural law and convention. Intended to touch the soul and free the mind; letting it soar with possibility and hope…

From my Pemberton home, I continue to carve, sculpt, create a mess in the garage, drive my wife crazy and be inspired by my family, friends and Mother Nature!
